:: Attitudes to Money
Different mentalities

Financial projection - often people project something which isn't actually the case.

Prov 13:7        One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.  (NIV)

  1. POVERTY mentality
  2. GREED mentality
  3. BLESSING mentality
Taking dominion

We are called to have dominion, to be fruitful and multiply.

Gen 1:28         “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."”

Money can be considered as “Dominion certificates”.

Dominion (noun)

  • The right, power and authority to command and control, decide, rule, or judge.
  • The legal right to possess something – ownership or title.

This is what money can do:

  • It says to land, “I can own you”.
  • Money says to buildings, “I can build you”.
  • Money says to vision, “I can fulfil you”.
  • Money says to poverty , “I can feed you”.
  • Money says to opportunity , “I can accept you”.

Finances are therefore merely Dominion certificates, allowing us to fulfil God's mandate to "see lives, communities and nations impacted and transformed to achieve their God given destiny."

Money is not bad; it can achieve incredible things.  Desire it to extend God’s purposes.

Money has the capacity to expose the human heart – James 1:11 “… So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.”

There is nothing wrong with having possessions, but don’t let possessions have you!

Has money got you or you got money!

The Love of Money

Money (or credit cards) takes on the nature and character of the holder, it becomes an extension of you.  So your money can either be used for good (blessings others) or for bad (drug money, gambling).

1 Tim 6:10       “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

The scripture clearly speaks about the LOVE of money, not money itself  -  ie an attitude.

Your heart will wrap around that which you put your money into.

Choose your God!

Matt 6:24        "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

MAMMON – god of this world

It is the thing that motivates and controls most of the people on earth.

Exod 20:3        "You shall have no other gods before Me.

Commit to financially put God first before your bank and savings accounts.

The continual thought of how you can acquire it, can become a dangerous and unhealthy desire.  There is nothing wrong with us having money, what is wrong is if money has us!

Nothing wrong with savings – but hold on loosely!

Cheque book = ECG of your heart

I live simply, so that others might simply live.

What the Bible says about Prosperity

Prosperity is biblical – other words used are: blessing, wealth, riches and abundance.

Ps 35:27          “Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favour my righteous cause; and let them say continually, "Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."”

Deut 8:1          “"And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

Why would God want you to prosper?

First of all, God loves you and wants the best for your life – including your health and relationships.

3 Jn 1:2           “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

Be a blessing and not the object of a blessing!

How does God make you prosperous?

He gives us the power and ability to get wealth through the principles and instructions in His word.

Josh 1:8          “"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth (SPEAK), but you shall meditate (READ and MEDITATE) in it day and night, that you may observe to do (DO) according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
